Luana Spalluto attended and graduated from Delaware Tech in 2021 after learning about the opportunity that the College’s SEED Scholarship Program provides in-state students. Spalluto selected the renewable energy solar degree program based on her fascination with solar technology and her passion for being a steward of the environment.
“I will never forget my first day at Delaware Tech,” she said. “I was immediately fascinated with the vast array of solar panels on campus. It impressed me how the school aimed to generate power from clean sources.”
A few favorite memories from her time at the College were spent on a study abroad trip to Switzerland, her time as a Student Government Association (SGA) officer, and serving as campaign manager for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.
Spalluto credits some of her most valuable experiences at Delaware Tech to Dr. Jennifer Clemons, Terry Campus department chair of energy technologies. “As a mentor, advisor, instructor, and friend, she inspired me to learn by making the courses intriguing and challenging, yet easy to understand.
“She believed in me through highs and lows and never gave up on me. Thanks to her, I completed my degree, went on to excel in my career, and I can now hang my diploma up in my office,” Spalluto said.
Spalluto got an internship with CMI Solar and Electric in Feb 2020, while she was still a student, and she is now the Renewable Permitting and Design Manager. She is grateful for the resources provided to her through the College and for the Delaware Tech faculty for teaching her all the necessary skills needed to be successful in her career.
Future goals include starting her own business, starting a family, and inspiring people through positivity.
Spalluto’s advice for future students joining Delaware Tech is to pursue their degree with a strive for greatness and to build a career for themselves without fear of failure.
“Find a mentor and be a mentor. As you learn, teach others. The people you meet and the connection you make will be rewarding in the end,” she said. “When opportunities come your way, grab them. Don’t take your opportunities at Delaware Tech for granted and always value the people around you.”
